Assistant Buyer – competitive salary depending on experience
Westbourne Civil Engineering Ltd is a family company established in 2008 and now grown to over 300 skilled people working in a productive and enjoyable environment. With groundworks and infrastructure construction sites across the north of England and a head office in Worsely, Manchester, Westbourne has established a reputation for outstanding quality of work.
The purpose of this role is to procure all the materials required for each groundworks projects and ensure they are provided on time and within budget. We use high quality, locally sourced, and recycled materials wherever possible to minimise transport miles, energy use, pollution and waste. The aim is to deliver a profitable contract, by purchasing the most cost-effective and appropriate materials for each job.
Working within a busy procurement team, the role would involve:

Receiving and placing materials orders, tracking orders and dealing with changes

Notifying suppliers of required specifications for products and monitoring adherence

Maintaining relationships with contacts on approved suppliers lists

Ensuring all items have a number of back up suppliers
-
Maintaining price/rate lists
-
Monitoring stock for call-off contracts
-
Ensuring orders are signed off correctly and that orders are placed in line with schedules
-
Maintaining and developing purchasing related management information and materials budgets

Liaising with Accounts team for payments

Day to day administrative support for colleagues
The Ideal Candidate will have:
-
Have a proven track record within a procurement position in the construction sector
-
Demonstrable experience of dealing with a range of materials suppliers
-
Confident user of Excel / strong Excel skills
-
Excellent numeracy skills and the ability to manage large volumes of data
-
Strong attention to detail
-
Outstanding organisational and time management skills
-
Budget setting and control experience would be beneficial
We are pursuing an ambitious growth project which we anticipate will result in a significant increase in the number of construction sites, and therefore the demands on the procurement team.
This role is full-time, office based, with on-site parking available.
Groundworkers and Experienced Labourers

Groundworks, roads and sewers for housing developments.

Must have current CSCS Card.

Some roles include using heavy machinery to dig, lift and move materials on building sites.

Experience required.

We have employed and self employed roles for individuals and gangs.
Buyer

Ensuring the profitability of the business by purchasing the most cost effective and appropriate materials for each job:

checking details and fulfilling orders; investigating and purchasing products that have lower environmental impact e.g. recycled aggregate; purchasing from local companies to reduce transport;

ensuring products confirm to relevant standards; ensuring the right materials are available in the right place at the right time.
