About
Westbourne Civil Engineering Ltd
Westbourne Civil Engineering is a family company established in 2008 and now grown to over 300 skilled people working in a productive and enjoyable environment.
We continue to invest in new plant and vehicles and are developing a new plant workshop and training facility building.
With sites across the north of England and a head office in Manchester, Westbourne has established a reputation for outstanding quality of work.
Our dedicated management team oversee the technical aspects of each project to ensure quality is maintained at every stage. We are known as problem solvers and have established close relationships with the UK’s leading house builders and private developers over many years.
We’ve invested in the best fleet of plant and equipment and deliver a huge amount of training to our teams. Health and Safety is a priority within our Integrated Management System. But we don’t just comply with the legislation and regulations, we go above and beyond, with clear communication at all times.
This approach follows through into everything we do. We don’t just abide by a duty of care – we actually do care – about our workforce, our clients, their customers, our environment and all of our futures. And we strive to provide the conditions in which all of us can thrive by treating one another with respect.
We utilise sustainable and green technologies to ensure the environment is protected during and after groundwork is completed. Our sewer work protects water courses and wildlife. We select plant and equipment for maximum fuel efficiency. We use high quality, locally sourced, and recylced materials wherever possible to minimise transport miles, energy use, pollution and waste.

Health and Safety
At Westbourne Civil Engineering, Health and Safety is at the forefront of everything we do. You could say it’s engrained in our DNA.
We ensure that we keep our people safe while achieving our business objectives. The nature of our construction and groundwork means that our people are working in an environment that is constantly changing. But by keeping health and safety high on management’s agenda we ensure that ample resources are allocated to equipment, vehicles, tools and training.
We are incredibly proud to have achieved ISO 9001, ISO 14001 an ISO 45001 accreditation, in fact it’s pretty unusual to have achieved all three and we couldn’t have met the assessment requirements without allocating significant resources to Health and Safety.
Our Health and Safety arrangements are site specific, not generic. For each project we carry out pre-commencement safety checks, conduct due diligence on the client, assess the information provided by the client and then produce risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work designed to protect the health and safety of our teams in that unique environment. Surveyors, estimators and contracts managers use the best technology and systems to collaborate closely with the site manager for everyone’s protection.
Our low rate of staff turnover is partly due to our continuous investment in training and up skilling which leads to good opportunities for development. And we always provide the best tools, vehicles and protective equipment for our teams.
Coronavirus
COVID-19 has produced a new health and safety challenge but we have reacted swiftly to the advice and requirements of all regulatory authorities to protect our site and office based staff. Whilst the core aspects of compliance and risk controls apply to Covid as to any other health and safety risk, we have taken additional communication and measures such as social distancing and enhanced cleaning and PPE to protect our team and our clients. In addition, we have put additional support in place for the wellbeing of our team.
